"One of the many things I love about Stephen [Paulus]'s music is that he is not afraid to just make a very simple and yet elegant setting, too". — Marie Spar Dymit
Join the members of the SD Master Chorale for a brand-new virtual performance of works by Stephen Paulus, Amy Beach, and Abbie Betinis. The poignant lyricism of Paulus's a cappella piece "The Old Church" resonates at a time when many churches must stand empty.
Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe will join SD Master Chorale Music Director John K. Russell for a pre-concert talk. They will discuss the influence that choral legend Dale Warland, Stephen Paulus, and others have had on the landscape of American choral music. Dr. Scheibe is the conductor of the USC Chamber Sings, on the America's finest collegiate choirs, and leader of the Choral and Sacred Music program at the University of Southern California. He has championed many emerging composers' works through his choral music publication series and consistently featuring them on concert programs and commercial recordings.
